Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

What is Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy?

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS) allows us to find problematic veins such as perforators or neovascularity that cannot be closed using RFA, removed with phlebectomy or visible on the skin surface. These injections are done with the assistance of the ultrasound using a very small needle after first numbing the skin. A small amount of solution is injected into the vein, which causes the vein wall to be irritated, closing the vein and later being absorbed by the body’s natural healing response. It is a safe and effective treatment for specific veins.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the number of veins that need treated, you many need several sessions to effectively close the vein.

Do the injections hurt?

We numb the area prior to injection so you will only feel a very small pinch prior to injection. The solution is not painful and after the treatment, you may experience a slight burning sensation but that only lasts about 30 minutes or so. You will wear your compression stockings for a few days and there is no downtime with this procedure.
